History

The seeds of the SRM Group was first laid when Dr. T. R. Pachamuthu, (F/o Dr. Ravi Pachamuthu), began the Florence Nightingale School in West Mambalam, Chennai, TN,India, and the foundations for professional education in 1984, with the launch of Valliammai Polytechnic Institute.

Dr. Ravi Pachamuthu has expanded the frontiers of the SRM group from an educational institute to a business empire with the largest portfolio of institutions in South India. With his broad vision, foresight, enterprise and determination, he has broadened the horizon of the Group’s business to new heights with SRM University, SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centres, SRM Transport Private Ltd, SRM Hotels, SRM Cements, SRM Civil Works Pvt Ltd, Ready Mix Concretes (RMC) etc. – all under the flagship of SRM.

Today SRM University has evolved as one of the top-ranking universities in India with over 40000 students and 2600 plus faculty members, offering a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in Engineering, Management, Medicine and Health Sciences, and Science and Humanities in Tamil Nādu, Ghaziabad, Sonepat and Sikkim.

The SRM group has established SRM Hospitals, colleges and research centres catering to the medical disciplines of nursing, physiotherapy, dentistry, occupational therapy and Indian medicine. SRM runs medical centres operating in multiple disciplines, including microbiology, biochemistry, biotechnology and pharmacology. 40% of these services are provided free of cost to the underprivileged and are made available to the general public at highly affordable rates in a bid to make good healthcare accessible to all.

SIMS Clinical Research Centre

The Department of Clinical research is fortunate to have Dr Ramakrishna who has been recently been awarded as two percent of the scientist in Gastroenterology Research.
Under the department of clinical research, the department of clinical trial is headed by Dr Vedantha Srinivas who has more than twenty-two years of experience in various specialities of medicine in pharmaceutical companies, CRO and Hospital.
The department has got well qualified and trained clinical research professionals as clinical research coordinators.
The Coordinators simultaneously work as Clinical Research Associate for the Hospital initiated National Multicentric Registry, who are trained in Good Clinical Practice and New Drug and Clinical Trial Rule.
The department is ably assisted with a clinical research nurse, who has undergone a clinical research course and is GCP and NDCT trained.
The Bio Statistician from the department helps in designing and statistical analysis work for Investigator Initiated studies for the hospital and the department.
The department has conducted more than thirty phase trials, in various medical specialties like, Gastroenterology, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Neurology, Gynaecology, Cardiology, Cardiothoracic, Orthopaedics and Nephrology.
We are also associated with Indian Government bodies like Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) and Department of Science and Technology.
The Consortium for Celiac disease – A National Multicentric program sponsored by DBT
Celiac disease in Migrant Indian Population, an ongoing study is sponsored by ICMR.
ICMR is sponsoring a study for Human Microbiome
We were part of ICMR driven Indian registry for mucormycosis patients.
A multi-national, multi-centric neuro registry sponsored by European academy of neurology (EAN) – The EAN Neuro-COVID Registry Consortium, is being conducted from the department.
Our department is associated with prestigious Indian Institute of Technology for Investigator Initiated Studies.
The Department is fully equipped with calibrated Deep freezers (- 20 and – 80), and refrigerators (2 to 8 degree and 15 to 25 degree). It has normal and refrigerated centrifuge.
An exclusive archival space is available for archiving clinical research documents.
The Institutional Ethics Committee is registered with CDSCO and DHR.
Molecular Laboratory in the hospital is NABL accredited. Our Hospital has MoU with NABL and CAP certified Laboratories.
The hospital being a tertiary care hospital, has a vast patient pool in different indications and various specialities.
Having the experienced clinical research professionals, well equipped laboratory, necessary Equipments and registered ethics Committee, SIMS is a preferred hospital for many pharma companies and CRO.
